Sometimes the Rain Makes the Best Memories
Coopers Rock State Forest, WV
There are some camping trips you spend months dreaming about.
And then there are the days that don’t go according to plan.
Our last full day at Coopers Rock State Forest was supposed to be filled with hiking and exploring. Instead, we woke up to steady rain that never seemed to let up.
Normally, I would have been disappointed.
Instead, we slowed down.
We stayed tucked inside the camper with iced coffee, coloring books, and friendship bracelets spread across the bar. We laughed, talked about absolutely nothing important, and listened to what was probably the loudest thunder I’ve ever heard.
It wasn’t the adventure I had planned.
But it turned into one of my favorite camping memories.
Camping has a funny way of reminding me that not every day has to be packed with activities to be meaningful. Sometimes the best moments happen when you’re forced to slow down.
I’m learning that this applies to life, too.
For so long I’ve felt like every minute needed to be productive. Every blog post needed to be perfect. Every trip needed an itinerary.
But sitting in that little camper while the rain poured outside reminded me that some of life’s sweetest memories happen in the quiet moments.
So if your next camping trip gets rained out…
- Make another cup of coffee.
- Pull out a deck of cards
- Color a picture.
- Read a book.
- Teach someone to make a friendship bracelet.
- Listen to the rain on the roof.
You might discover those unexpected moments become the ones you remember most.
Thanks for spending a little coffee break with me today. See you around the campfire.
